Big Game Management – Steve Ford is the contact for this hunting service based out of Shackelford County.  Steve manages 15,000+ acres of beautiful low fence country that consistently holds trophy quality whitetails.  This hunting service has been in business since the early 90’s and has many repeat customers due to the high number and quality of game.  Steve manages this service full time and also has several experienced guides on staff to help scout and put you on a big buck!

TexasOC was able to visit the ranch in November 2004 to experience a hunt with Big Game Management.  The hunting experience and service from this ranch was exceptional.  During our 4-day hunt, it was not uncommon to see 10+ different bucks per day among other types of game.  There were plenty of stands to hunt from (40+ stands and feeders!) and the action was non-stop at all of the different hunting locations.

It was evident that Steve and his team care about the experience of his hunters by scouting/videoing other stands while you are hunting.  He wants to put you on a big buck and even backs it up with a guarantee with all his trophy hunts.  He intentionally does not book more than about 6 people at any given time to reduce hunting pressure and provide a significant amount of acreage per person for hunting.

Hunts are available for quail, turkey, dove, hog and deer.  Visit his website for the latest pricing and to view pictures of previous whitetails taken from the ranch.  If you want to experience a high quality hunt for big North Texas whitetails, contact us today at 832-573-5829 or contact Steve Ford directly at 325-762-5068.  Please make sure and tell him you found his number at Texas Outfitter Connection.  Visit their website at www.biggamemgmt.com.

Miller Creek Ranch – Stony and Kevin Trainham are the contacts at this ranch in the Northwest corner of Throckmorton County.  The ranch is approximately 1500 acres of brushy low fenced property and includes a very nice camp house with all the comforts of home.  Hunts start at only $50/day for dove, $100/day for hogs, $125/day for quail, $200/day for turkey and deer hunts are only $1350 for a 4 day hunt.  Ask about their bow hunting special for only $1000!  This is the first year for day hunting this ranch in 2004 and will be intensively managed for quality game.

Texas Outfitter Connection had the opportunity to hunt with the Trainham’s at their ranch in Sept. 2004.  It is evident from our visit that these folks take pride in their game and their property.   Many of the hunting stands we saw were custom built two-person blinds with plenty of room.  The spacious camp house is built with the hunter in mind and includes a pool table, stereo, satellite TV, bunk beds for 6, full kitchen and heating/cooling.  We were impressed to hear that the folks at Miller Creek Ranch do not plan on booking large numbers of hunters through their property.  Instead, they would rather have a lower quantity of hunters and focus on the quality of game and service for those few.  It is evident that they will do what it takes to build long-term relationships with hunters and hopefully provide an experience that will want people to return in the years ahead.

If you want to experience a great hunt on a low-fenced ranch where customer service is a priority, contact us today at 832-573-5829 or contact Stony/Kevin Trainham directly at 940-256-2340.  Please make sure and tell them you found their number at Texas Outfitter Connection.  For more information, visit their website directly at www.millercreekranch.com.

Hawg Creek Ranch – Tray Murphy is the contact at this ranch in the Rockdale area of Milam County.  The ranch is approximately 500 acres with a hog-proof fence for some of the most exciting hog dog hunting around.  Hunts are $400 for a 2 day trip and are fully guided, complete with trained bay and catch dogs.  Tray guarantees you 2 hogs on this trip, which can be killed with a knife, bow or spear.  Lodging is included.  Potential exists for trophy boar!!  This ranch is new to the area for 2004 and will soon have every weekend booked.

Tray and his crew live for hog dog hunting.  The people we met at the ranch have been hog dog hunting for years and often compete in area bay dog contests.  They believe in two bay dogs and then one on one with a catch dog when the hog is found.  We had a blast hunting with them in June of 2004 and saw many hogs.  The hunts are challenging and there is plenty of thick cover even though it is in a fenced property.  This type of hunt makes you ask yourself why you would want to go back to hog hunting out of stands.  If you want an exciting hunt where you can put your hands on a live hog, contact us today at 832-573-5829 or contact Tray directly at 713-204-1659.  Please make sure and tell him you found his number at Texas Outfitter Connection.
